“I Want to Kill Him!” – Walt Harris Reveals How He Dealt With the Tragic Murder of His Daughter

UFC heavyweight Walt Harris feels like killing his daughter’s murderer. Harris found himself in a dark place when he got the news of his stepdaughter’s disappearance. On October 23, 2019, Aniah Blanchard, went missing in Alabama.
The news entered the national spotlight within a few days. Fellow fighters, fans, and even the President of the UFC extended their support to Harris and his family. Sadly, Blanchard’s remains were found on November 25, 2019.
Twenty-nine-year-old Ibrahim Yazeed kidnapped her at a gas station. He then shot her before disposing of her body.

Walt Harris and his family are devastated
Harris was scheduled to fight Overeem in December. However, that bout was called off.
“I went through a dark, dark period as you know,” Harris told reporters at a virtual UFC on ESPN 8 media day held on Thursday. “You could probably already imagine. I felt myself slipping in the opposite direction of what I set out to be as a man and as a father.”

In a recent short documentary about Harris’ road to recovery, he revealed that he felt like jumping over the banister and killing his daughter’s killer while they were in court. However, he stopped himself because it wasn’t about him but his daughter.
“I want to kill him. I’m going to be honest. It took everything I had in me not to jump over that banister,” Harris said.

“It’s not about me. It’s about my daughter and getting justice for my daughter. And anything remotely that deters that, I don’t want.”
Harris returns to action
Harris will return to action this Saturday. He will fight Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC on ESPN 8. The American defeated Aleksei Oleinik in July 2019 and is on a 2-fight win streak. Overeem, on the other hand, is coming off a loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik. “The Reem” looked sharp in his last bout until the final seconds of the fifth round.

Both fighters have made weight. Overeem weighed in at 253.5 lbs whereas Harris weighed in at 264.5 lbs.
