Alistair Overeem proved his doubters wrong once again by surviving an early scare against Walt Harris. Overeem has been criticized for having a ‘glass chin’ in the past, but his fight against Harris proved otherwise. Harris, who’s known for his brutal strength, landed a clean shot and dropped ‘The Reem’ in the first round. However, Overeem survived the barrage of punches. The fight was certainly a bitter-sweet fight for Harris, who made his comeback after losing his daughter last year.

One of the major takeaways from the fight was Overeem’s experience in difficult situations. He proved once again why he’s an MMA legend by making a solid comeback in round 2 and securing the victory. Alistair landed a big head kick and dropped Harris, finishing the fight off with some ground and pound to secure the victory.

“We were definitely in trouble,” says Alistair Overeem

“There was definitely trouble, I got dropped no.1, no.2 I got cut. You have a man who’s 275 standing on top trying to finish you, so definitely we were in trouble. He’s very athletic and powerful. We were in trouble for a little bit. Fortunately, I was able to reverse the situation and get the finish. Fight adversity and that’s how u show it,” said Overeem during the official UFC post-fight conference.

“Win, lose, or draw, being here is a win for Harris,” says Dana White

“Win, lose, or draw, being here is a win for Harris. This was Walt’s real big first fight. He’ll learn from this, and he’ll be back. And coming off what he came off of, just getting here tonight was a huge step for him and his family — and I’m happy for him,” said White.
