The fight between “Lionheart” Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira has stirred up a fresh pot of controversy. Many, including Daniel Cormier, believe that Smith’s corner didn’t act in his favor during the fight.

The fight started smoothly for Smith, as his execution of the plan to beat Glover was working well. He threw those jabs and kicks with a lot of strength and precision. However, Glover, a tough nut to crack, did not yield to Smith’s strikes.

Smith ran out of stamina towards the end of the third round, and Teixeira picked up the pace. From the third round, the 40-year-old Brazilian dominated the fight, putting his expert boxing technique and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to work.

While Smith was unable to get back to the winning tie, he did not give in. He survived almost the entirety of three rounds of brutal punishment, with Glover throwing massive hammer fists and constantly attempting a rear-naked choke. However, many argue that the wish to not carry on fighting was right there on Smith’s face.

Consequently, Smith’s corner is now facing heavy criticism for not calling the match to a halt much earlier by throwing in the towel.

DC, sitting right there outside the Octagon with the commentary team, was quite vocal about the series of events. He took to Twitter to express his viewpoint on the matter.

In his Tweet, DC wrote, “I would have stopped the fight, [the] corner could have saved their guy from getting finished. Some mistakes in that corner tonight. And I love those guys! Too much instruction, no crowd to filter it. Anthony Smith is a savage, but props to [Glover Teixeira] on big victory.”

With the absence of the crowd, the fighters are able to hear everything that happens in the arena. And DC feels that an abundance of instructions from Smith’s corner with no noise from the crowd to filter it may have caused Smith to lose.

Moreover, he also said that the corner could have avoided Teixeira’s win by the finish.
