Thus, the journey towards the 170 lbs title and the tale of defending it is been a thriller for MMA fans. BMF champion Masvidal already had a failed attempt at the UFC gold against Kamaru Usman in the UFC 251 main-event. And he may remain out of the title mix for some time now. However, that did not end the challenges for Jorge Masvidal.

The bad-blood rivalry between Masvidal and Edwards goes back to March 2019. Both Edwards and Masvidal had a successful run against their respective opponents at UFC Fight Night 147 in March 2019. Masvidal knocked out Till that night and Edwards vanquished Gunnar Nelson in his home county UK.

Moreover, the duo later got engaged in a backstage brawl. And Masvidal punched Edwards, making ‘Rocky’ bleed from his face. Well, that is not the sole reason why Edwards wants to face Masvidal next.

“I have the most [consecutive] wins in the division compared to the champion. Gilbert only came to the division four fights ago – after being knocked out at lightweight. “I truly believe I’ve done everything there is to do to deserve a title shot, and I should be the next in line.

“I prefer (the Masvidal) fight over Gilbert. Usman said he wants to have a little time out with his daughter, his children, and chill for a bit. If they come to me and say ‘Gilbert or Masvidal,’ I’d prefer Masvidal for what happened in London, backstage. We’ve got a genuine beef between us. That would be a bigger fight, a more entertaining fight,

“(The beef) will never go away until I get my hands on him. Even after, it wouldn’t go away,” told Leon Edwards. to South China Morning Post.

Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal has recently lost his title shot against Kamaru Usman at UFC 251. And it is assumed that Gilbert Burns would be next on the line. ‘Durinho’ had to face Usman for the title before testing positive with COVID-19. When Burns returns, he will get his title shot. Meanwhile, Masvidal and Leon Edwards might lock horns shortly.
