

Former UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza spoke out post-fight at UFC Fight Island 3 and shared her plans for the future. ‘The Cookie Monster’ is on a 4-fight win streak in the promotion and has regained her title contention status. Not to mention, she is coming off a crucial victory over elite prospect Marina Rodriguez in the final event on Yas Island.
The fight was a back and forth affair that say Esparza’s groundwork shine throughout the 15-minute duration. Moreover, she managed to neutralize the dangerous striker in Rodriguez on road to a split decision win. She has now managed to secure a prime position for herself in the competitive 115-pound weight class.

‘The Cookie Monster’ maintained an optimistic view of her trajectory in the division while speaking to the media via MMA Junkie. She seemed to drive her focus to breakout star Amanda Ribas who appears to be a game contender. Additionally, she also shared her views on running back a fight against veteran a contender of the division.

“Claudia has always been on my radar, you know I’ve called her out multiple times since we fought last. But, I’m not holding my breath for that fight. I know she has a fight booked right now so..”
“Amanda Ribas called out the winner of this fight. I’m definitely down for that. Or title fight or anything. But If Amanda wants that fight, I’m game.”

The Brazilian prospect in Ribas had a flashy introduction to the MMA community when she walked through Paige VanZant. The general consensus surrounding her involves the narrative that she was a breakout performer of Fight Island. Not to mention, her visibility amongst the mainstream audience increased drastically following her dominant win.

Going forward, Carla Esparza will be looking to once again re-enter herself amongst the divisional elite. The former ‘TUF 20’ winner failed to recapture her early success amongst the shark tank of elite 115-pounder contenders. Chiefly, her most recent outings have gone a long way in proving her place atop the stacked weight class.
