UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman spoke to TMZ and shared his views on fighting the sport’s biggest draw, Conor McGregor. The dominant 170-pound champion most recently fought Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251 that took place in Abu Dhabi. The bout was primarily a clinch and ground game-heavy assault from the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ who notched in another title defense.

The bout was one of the most anticipated scraps of the year given the challenger’s superstar status. ‘Gamebred’ has risen to rarified territory within the promotional structure as a massive draw for the company. Chiefly, his legion of fans was excited to witness his title opportunity against the welterweight tyrant in Usman.

Kamaru Usman on Conor McGregor

“That’s a lost conversation, that’s a lost cause. We both know the only time Conor gets up to the Welterweight division, is if he’s able to pick and choose lightweight with double-digit losses that he can pick off. If Conor wants a piece at Welterweight he knows who the king of the division is.”

Even after officially retiring from the sport of MMA, the Irishman remains the biggest marquee name on the roster. Since bursting onto the scene in the promotion his megastar appeal was evident from the get-go. Any fight involving McGregor is guaranteed to do blockbuster business in terms of pay-per-view sales.

“I’m not going anywhere, I’m right here. I offered him a shot, I said ‘hey, if you want it’s yours, you got it’, He was silent. Days later Anderson Silva said says ‘hey, let’s do it and he responded, he said yeah’. It’s clear right there to know if Conor is willing to step up take a fight like this or not. I think he’s a wise guy, so he should just stay retired.”

After defeating top star Jorge Masvidal, it appears as though Kamaru Usman is excited to take on another huge name. UFC 251 did an estimated 1.3 million pay-per-view buys, and that number goes up in a Conor bout. Time will be the best indication of a potential welterweight super fight.
