Conor McGregor announced his retirement from fighting last Saturday. Ever since then many fighters have goaded him into backtracking and returning.  Floyd Mayweather Jr called out ‘Notorious’ because of the comments he made to Mike Tyson about being able to beat ‘Money.’ Now, Rafael dos Anjos has jumped on the bandwagon and called him out of retirement.

Conor McGregor Celebrates His Retirement with Fans

Rafael dos Anjos challenges Conor McGregor

The ‘Notorious’ reasoned that he was retiring as nothing excited him. Now the 9th ranked Welterweight Rafael dos Anjos put out a tweet. He laid down a challenge, thus giving fans a chance of witnessing a match 4 years after it got canceled.

‘RDA’ wrote, “Let’s do it (Conor McGregor) if you’re looking for a fight I’m the guy. 155,165 or 170 you know I’m always game. F**k this retirement shit”.

In 2016, when Featherweight Champion McGregor was the undisputed top dog of the company he was to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC Lightweight Championship. However, as fate would have it dos Anjos pulled out of the fight days before UFC 196 due to a broken foot.

As a result, he missed out on a massive payday. Subsequently, Nate Diaz replaced him and the bout was converted into a Welterweight matchup.

Here, ‘The Stockton Slugger’ earned his biggest payday and shocked the world by submitting ‘Notorious’ in the second round via rear-naked choke. This paved the way for a mega rematch which saw Diaz pocket $2.2 million. This was not lost on dos Anjos who took time to hit back at the Welterweight’s comments from earlier this week.

‘RDA’ has not competed at Lightweight since losing his title to Eddie Alvarez and the subsequent fight to Tony Ferguson. He moved to Welterweight and has a 1-4 record since falling to Colby Covington at UFC 225.

A move back to Lightweight for the former Champion could revive his career. Could ‘Notorious’ conceivably return for the fight? It is something Dana White may approve as he had indicated that Conor McGregor will compete at Lightweight.
