After UFC Fight Night 171 main event fell apart, Colby Covington offered to step as a replacement to fight Tyron Woodley.

Originally Edwards vs Woodley was set to take place in the O2 arena but due to the ban on public gatherings, the card was moved to the United States. However, Edwards could not travel to the USA because of travel bans. However, Covington offered to step in to save the main event.

Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington share a long rivalry. Both men have lost their championship bouts against Kamaru Usman. Covington was stopped in the fifth round whereas Woodley got dominated throughout the fight.

Colby Covington sends a stern message to Tyron Woodley

It began when Woodley was the welterweight champion. Both fighters were on a collision course at multiple times. At one point, Covington was the interim welterweight champion but was later stripped and the fight never materialised.

“I have been in camp, it’s easy for me to jump at an opportunity like this. Especially against a scrub like Tyron Woodley. I’ll slap the f*** out of Tyron Woodley, that guy is a b***.”

“He’s been running from me for years. He literally won’t sign a contract to fight me. I’m offering to fight you on a 6 days notice, that’s how much of a jobber and a scrub you are.”

Although Covington claimed that Woodley did not accept the fight, Woodley had a different say. “The Chosen One” claimed that the UFC president, Dana White told him that Covington was not serious about fighting him.
