Tyron Woodley will make his second UFC appearance in 2020 and is training for a massive fight against Colby Covington. He has an ally, Jorge Masvidal, who sided with him under the enemy of my enemy is my friend ideology. The duo has a firm friendship and train at the American Top Team gym. However, Woodley explained that his companionship with ‘Gamebred’ goes way beyond the duo just being teammates.

He said, “I’ve always supported Jorge, if we go back and look at the last two or three years, you’ll see me giving Jorge his credit and being happy for him genuinely. He’s finally making the money. So when he did that restyle, I said hell yeah.”

Masvidal ascended to a position of prominence in 2019. This came 16 years after he debuted as a professional fighter. Woodley too has had a long career in MMA. He attributed the longevity to Masvidal and his IQ and perseverance.

The former champion said, “It’s really solid that you got two dudes kind of from the same. We both came from the gutter…We both found a way to stick with it, we’ve had a long career because of our IQ and because we put ourself in uncomfortable situations in training so that we can thrive in the octagon.”

Woodley revealed that they both want to see each other succeed and credits the BMF for helping him make a change. The former champion shared a conversation he had with ‘Gamebred’ and said that they talked a lot before teaming up.

“We’ve had several conversations even before this happened. ‘You know Tyron you should get your s**t straight. My head was f**ked up, and I cleared it up. Look what happened. Till, Ben…I went on a run, you gotta do the same thing’.” 

‘The Chosen One’ credited Masvidal for providing him a blueprint to discovering himself and helping him feel near his best. Hence, he doesn’t want to disappoint him.

Woodley said, “He told me there was some toxic things in my life that I needed to erase. I’ve erased those things, now I can breathe, now I can float. Now, I’m back!”

Woodley would have been raring to go for this fight as he has a score to settle against Colby Covington, who has provided his career obituariesHowever, the extra motivation could display a transformed fighter, which only adds the pressure on Covington ahead of their match on September 19.

To many observers, the former champion looked rusty in his comeback in May. Before the fight, he promised to take ‘Durinho’ ‘to deep waters’, but it backfired spectacularly.

Now, if Woodley claims to be in a good place, it should bode well for him as he seeks a first win since 2018. And there is no better opponent than Covington, as Masvidal too will stay motivated in helping Woodley beat his former friend.
