“I’m Not the Best Grappler”- Georges St-Pierre Reveals What Makes Him Formidable in the Octagon

The consensus MMA GOAT Georges St-Pierre spoke to Adam Catterall of BT Sport in an exclusive interview on everything combat sports. ‘Rush’ is one of the most accomplished athletes in the sport of MMA as a whole with a stellar resume. The former two-division champion has chartered his own legacy as an MMA fighter along with being an ambassador.

Georges St-Pierre expressed his views on fighting and what it means to him to be at the pinnacle of the sport. His soft-spoken nature outside the cage, however, never hampered his ability to turn on the intensity on his opponents.

St-Pierre’s incredible run as the Welterweight champion will forever live on in the minds of the fans. Additionally, he made a successful comeback in 2017 when he moved up to Middleweight and stopped Michael Bisping.

Chiefly, it is apparent to anyone who’s followed his career that his style of fighting was inspired by discipline. His easy-going nature was a gravitational pull for fight fans who admired him.

“I believe the art of fighting and self-defense, call it whatever you want, martial arts, I believe it was all mixed together. Through time, we separated and made it more specialized. My favorite part of it is when everything is all integrated together, that’s when I’m at my best.”

Moreover, while elaborating on his views on fighting, St-Pierre revealed what made him a force to reckon with. GSP found incredible success despite being undersized for the weight class that he fought in.

“I’m not the best striker, I’m not the best grappler, but I’m very good at mixing both. I’m very good in the transition. Even if I fight a guy who is better than me in every discipline, when I mix them all together I’m very good. I can weaponise pace and put a pace in the transition that people can’t keep up with.”

Throughout his career, GSP’s well-rounded game was on full display every time he entered the octagon. If talks for a return against Khabib Nurmagomedov are to materialize, he will have to integrate his aforementioned skill-set to the highest of levels.
