Daniel Cormier will finally get to fight Stipe Miocic for the Heavyweight title he lost in shocking fashion last year. Given the way ‘DC’ dominated before falling victim to a TKO loss, he is very testy in the buildup to the massive clash at the UFC Apex. It was evident in his exchange with Ariel Helwani on the weekly show ‘DC & Helwani.’

Daniel Cormier vows to beat Stipe Miocic in the trilogy fight

In the latest episode, Helwani touched upon the UFC 252 main event as well as DC’s claim of retiring following the fight. He said, “You win that fight on the 15th, the belt is vacant. They may just put Stipe back in the fight.”

Cormier considered for a while before saying, “Could be. Stipe should be back in the title fight. He’s made more defenses than anybody.”

Next, Helwani jokingly hinted at seeing Miocic take on Ngannou for a second time. At this moment ‘DC’ got all serious and said, “well you gonna have to wait until you see me beat him.”

Extremely quick as a broadcaster, Helwani covers up by saying that’s exactly what he meant. Next, he asked ‘DC’ to not get so defensive. The Heavyweight replied, “Yea I’m getting defensive. Like Stipe has a chance to win the fight?”

Finally, Helwani explains his comment indicating that Miocic and Ngannou will fight for the vacant belt once ‘DC’ walks away. This seems to pacify the top-ranked Heavyweight as he says, “Okay. Yea maybe. He’s gonna need some time to recover once I’m…”

At this point, Cormier gets charged up and sends a warning to the champion as he proclaims, “I’m very interested, I’m really serious this time. Like I’m not playing.”

In 2018, ‘DC’ made his return to Heavyweight, and whilst still holding the 205 lbs belt he KOed Miocic in the first round to become a two-division champion. Later he defended the belt against Derrick Lewis. However, in the second fight against Miocic, he shockingly couldn’t retain his belt.

Cormier has been calling for the trilogy for a while. Now that it is finally going ahead, he wants to put his best foot forward and leave professional fighting on a high.

Is Daniel Cormier’s testiness an apt indicator of his single-minded devotion to conquering the Heavyweight division once more?
