UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has had a lot of vitriolic wins in his career where he has been accused of delivering boring fights.

Well, it still doesn’t change the fact that Usman is one of the most dominant champions ever to fight in the promotion. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is a terrific wrestler and striker, who has successfully defended his UFC belt twice against Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal.

While he outstruck Covington at UFC 245, Usman changed his stance and out-wrestled Masvidal in his second title defense at UFC 251.

Although Usman has been criticized for his performance at UFC 251, the Nigerian Nightmare has paid very little attention to his critics.

A lot of UFC fans have also claimed that Usman cannot produce fireworks inside the cage. Well, that statement is not true. If you wish to see a complete ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ dominance, you can easily re-watch one of his old fights in UFC.

If not, a sparring session between Usman and Michael Johnson from the past would work too. In the video, Usman and lightweight prospect Johnson are spotted sparring and it is no less than an intense battle.

Kamaru Usman and Michael Johnson sparring session from the past

The YouTube channel ‘Anatomy of a fighter’ has a video where the current UFC welterweight champion is seen offering some action to Michael Johnson.

Both Usman and Johnson are eminent strikers, but Usman is also a technical wrestler. Thus, he doesn’t hesitate to take the training session to the ground.

Although no one was injured in the session, the jabs they landed were deadly enough to knock someone out. Johnson also outstruck Usman a couple of times, but the welterweight appeared to be dominant throughout the sparring session.

After the session ended, both the men showed mutual respect towards each other.

Where is Michael Johnson?

Johnson is one of the deadliest lightweight strikers that the sport has ever seen. However, his dominance is not exactly replicated on papers. ‘The Menace’ is currently on a three-fight losing streak, sporting a pro record of 20 wins and 16 losses.

However, Johnson has faced some of the elites in UFC including the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, and Nate Diaz amongst others.

He has fought only once in 2020. ‘The Menace’ is yet to announce his upcoming fight.

Who is next for Usman?

After a successful title defense against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251, Usman is expected to defend his belt against teammate Gilbert Burns next. Burns was initially scheduled to fight Usman at UFC 251.

However, the Brazilian’s COVID-19 reports came out as positive and he was replaced with Masvidal on the final days.

As he is reportedly fit now, ‘Burns vs Usman’ is next on the line. UFC officials are yet to announce a date and venue for the matchup.

However, Dana White has assured fans that the fight will take place soon enough.
