Is Daniel Cormier the Greatest of All Time?

Former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is regarded as one of the best combat sports athletes on the planet. Some even refer to him as the Greatest of All Time. But is it fair to call him the GOAT?
Let’s have a look at Daniel Cormier’s MMA career. The American fighter started his MMA career in 2009. He fought at heavyweight for the majority of his career. After fighting his way through the regional promotions, “DC” made his Strikeforce debut in 2011. He won the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix in the following year and defeated some legends.
Cormier fought former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir in his UFC debut. One fight later, he dropped to light heavyweight and went 2-0 at the weight class before fighting Jon Jones. Sadly, Cormier lost decisively to Jon Jones. But this would not stop him from capturing the gold.

“DC” won the vacant belt in his next fight by defeating Anthony Johnson. His win streak continued until Jones returned. Jones finished Cormier to regain the belt, but the bout was then overturned to a no-contest as the former tested positive for a banned substance.
Is Daniel Cormier worthy of being called the “GOAT?”
Cormier was in a terrible situation after the second Jones fight. He was the champion, but everybody knew he lost to Jones. His next defense against Volkan Oezdemir did not help him either. It is difficult to overlook Jon Jones as the Light Heavyweight GOAT.
Although DC has achieved a similar feat, Jones has a much stronger resume at light heavyweight. And one cannot discount his victory over Cormier.

Subsequently, Cormier returned to his original weight class and defeated Stipe Miocic to win the heavyweight title. He was no longer under Jones’ shadow.
As far as the heavyweight division is concerned, Cormier has an impressive resume, but he has not fought the level of competition that Stipe Miocic has faced.

Although Cormier has fought some of the best athletes, the reigning champion Stipe Miocic is in a much better position to claim the Heavyweight GOAT title. Nevertheless, Cormier will always be remembered as one of the best combat sports athletes on the planet. He will fight Stipe Miocic for the third time on August 15 inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
