Sean O’Malley returned to the Octagon after serving two bans handed down by the USADA. On both the occasions he had tested positive for ostarine. During his first suspension, he was booked against José Alberto Quiñónez. O’Malley announced his return to the world by a first-round knockout of Quiñónez at UFC 248 in March.

He carried the momentum forward by earning another first-round knockout of Eddie Wineland at UFC 250 last month. By giving back Quiñónez, the fight which couldn’t happen earlier, O’Malley has attempted to do right by his part. Now he plans on doing the same with Vera.

Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera have a bit of a history between them

This is not the first occasion that we are hearing about the pairing of Vera and O’Malley. The UFC had booked this fight for UFC 239 in July 2019. However, a second successive doping violation on O’Malley’s part prevented the fight from happening.

After O’Malley pulled off from the scheduled fight, Vera labeled him as a cheater.

Marlon Vera’s last fight ended with a controversial unanimous decision loss at the hands of Song Yadong. Many, including O’Malley, believed that Vera won the fight.

With two fights in the bag and a third one on the way, O’Malley is making full use of the momentum and the hype that he has gained. A win over Marlon Vera could be the key for him to break into the top ten of the UFC Bantamweight rankings.
