Will Khabib Nurmagomedov make weight? This was one of the biggest questions going into this weekend ahead of UFC 254. When they announced ‘155,’ it was a huge sigh of relief not only for the current lightweight champion but also for the fans eagerly anticipating the fight.

However, there seems to have been a little controversy regarding Khabib’s weight. Khabib was the first athlete to come out to the scales at the official weigh-ins. As a slightly unsteady Khabib stepped on, the official at the scale seemed to have called the weight early.

World-famous trainer, Mike Dolce took to his YouTube channel to point out what he saw. Dolce has been on the UFC stage for many of his athletes’ weigh-ins and stated that he thought there was a serious error in the official’s judgment.

However, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s coach, Javier Mendez, spoke to MMA Junkie dismissing the issue. Mendez doesn’t understand people’s comments regarding the weigh-in when they weren’t there.

Mendez told the media, “I can tell you that yesterday, after the first weight cut, it was in the morning, he was six pounds off the weight, and he was going to do two cuts – one on Thursday morning and one at night.”

Mendez, who wasn’t present at the weigh-ins, stated that there were no issues with Nurmagomedov’s weight cut.

“He felt so good, and he was six pounds off,” Mendez continued. “He felt strong and said he was going to do the cut the next day. And (by then) he had four-and-a-half, maybe five pounds to go this morning.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov had his weight on point

“I asked him, ‘How was the weight cut?’ And he replied, ‘Easy, coach, like last time.”

Mendez believes that people are simply jumping to conclusions. “All weight cuts are hard, as you know, but I don’t understand (why) people are making something of nothing. It’s stupid.”
