Jon Jones yet again knocked on controversy’s door by getting arrested for DUI and firearm charges. The Light Heavyweight Champion has had his fair share of trouble with the law. However, this time, the courts may not allow him to walk away.

The law has let ‘Bones’ go of easily for similar crimes in the past. He first became an “outlaw on the road” in 2012, when he banged his car into a pole in Binghamton, New York, and was arrested by New York’s Finest.

Although his mother bailed him out a few hours later, the fighter faced repercussions. He paid a fine of $1000, installed ignition locks on all his cars, and completed a victims impact class as mandated by the court. His driver’s license was also suspended for six months.

In 2015, Jones was involved in a hit-and-run case. After running a red signal, Jones crashed into two vehicles. Thereafter, he fled the scene on foot and later pleaded guilty for the same. He carried out the corrective activities the court assigned to him, and paid a fine of $2500. In a tweet post the incident, Jones wrote,

“Got a lot of soul-searching to do. Sorry to everyone I’ve let down.”

Because Jones had repeated his offence, he was warned of strict action should such incidents were repeated again.

In 2016 the last thing Jon Jones was told by the judges was “if you come back… it won’t go well for you”. 😯

However, it seems like Jones did not pay enough heed to the warning.

“I have anxiety,” says Jon Jones

The police questioned Jones after responding to a firearm discharge call in the area. While he was unresponsive to most questions, Jones repeatedly stated that he was suffering from anxiety.

Yet, his claims lost most meaning when he registered positive in the alcohol metre. Add that to negligent use of a firearm, possession of an open container, and driving with no proof of insurance, and Jones has dug himself a deep hole of troubles.

Taking into account the fact that the law gave Jones several chances to correct his behavior, any judge presiding over his case may decide that it’s time for Jones to serve some jail time.

It is clear that the judicial authority will not tolerate repeated negligence of the law, no matter who it is. And the warning aimed specifically at Jones made it clear that his next trip to the courtroom will not be pleasant.

However, the current situation, with the pandemic on the loose, Jones’ judicial process might get delayed. Even though Jones is scheduled to appear before the court on April 8th, his hearing might just take much more time than anticipated.

What punishment do you think will be meted out to Jon Jones?
