Ben Askren has seen a quick rise and a quick fall since his much-awaited debut in UFC. The former tow organization world champion, Ben Askren made his debut with a controversial win over former UFC champion, Robbie Lawler. However, it has been a downfall since that win.

He suffered a devastating 5-second knock out loss against Jorge Masvidal and recently he faced a submission loss against Demian Maia making his record 1-2 in UFC.

Ben Askren believes that he would have fought for the title if he had won the fight against Jorge Masvidal. However, the loss against Demian Maia has Askren consider retiring from the sport.

Looking back at both his losses, Ben Askren said that the loss against Jorge Masvidal had cost him more than the loss against Maia.

“After the Masvidal thing, I was definitely more disappointed because it was so dramatic and it was so fast, I did not get to really fight at all. Then I lost a gigantic opportunity in the fact that if I had won the fight I would have probably fought for the title,” said Askren talking about the loss to Masvidal.

“With this one( loss against Maia), I actually feel pretty good about my performance. The last-minute was a whole bunch of shit. Prior to that, I feel like I was winning the fight both in the stand-up and then I was getting the takedown and doing ground and pounds and king of winning the scrambles on the ground.” added Askren.

Ben Askren was arguably winning the fight against Demian Maia until he got submitted. He landed more strikes against Maia and he was getting the takedowns, doing just enough to win the rounds on the judges’scorecards.

“Some time you win, you wrestled like dog crap, and sometimes you lose, and you wrestled really well. I feel better because my performance was not terrible besides the last minute and then the downfall and the opportunity loss was not as large as the last time,” said Askren.

It’s a tough sport where you are as good as your last performance. Even though coming into UFC, Ben Askren was considered one of the best to ever do it at the moment fans are not even sure whether he is good enough to compete at the highest level.
