UFC 251 marked the culmination of the UFC’s efforts to successfully move operations and host events on Fight Island. However, their task is not done as they have 3 more fight cards to pull off before a proposed return to the Apex. The buoyant UFC President, Dana White spoke to the media ahead of the second of these events.

Highlighting the successful UFC 251, via MMA Junkie, he said, “It was a very successful event we’re happy this thing killed it across the board in every way you can possibly kill it. So it was awesome…I think it did really well. “

Dana White says Fight Island was a massive star

The PPV card had amazing contests which included 3 championship fights as well as a split decision thriller featuring Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade. Also, the clashes featuring Petr Yan, Jose Aldo, Max Holloway, Alexander Volkanovski, Kamaru Usman, and Jorge Masvidal, did not disappoint. The arena, ‘Flash Forum’ too was the center of attention. However, White believes the success can be attributed to many things going right.

He said, I think when you put on a fight, a successful promotion of an event. It’s a big melting pot of things, fight island was a massive star in the thing.”

He acknowledges the presence of ‘Gamebred’ who stepped in at relatively short notice and successfully made weight. Furthermore, he had praise for ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ as well.

“Masvidal was a massive star, obviously Usman, the champion and a guy we’re realizing is tough to beat. And a great card underneath it.”

All in all, everything came together perfectly, and most importantly for White, his testing protocols worked. Fighters are testing positive in the first of 5 tests before boarding their flights to Fight Island. White concluded, It all came together perfectly and everybody was healthy. It was a major success. It’s all good, literally not one negative thing I could point out.”

Fans too would be hard-pressed to point out anything negative and will be hoping for equally competitive fights over the coming weeks.
