UFC Boss Dana White spoke to the media ahead of UFC on ESPN 11 at a media scrum. White touched upon core issues related to the company and the landscape of CO-VID 19. Chiefly the media uses the scrum platform to gain clarity on frequently arising questions surrounding the UFC.

The company President addressed the topic of former featherweight champion Jose Aldo coming off losses and going into a title shot. He is set to face Petr Yan at UFC 251 for the vacant 135-pound belt. Fans and critics have been clamoring to know the reasoning behind the booking.

Jose Aldo was the long time featherweight king and pioneer for fighters in the lighter weight classes. Up until his loss to Conor McGregor, Jose Aldo had not lost a fight for over a decade. In recent years Aldo has 4-2 in his last 6 fights and as mentioned before is coming off a two-fight skid.

Although several people picked him as the winner in his last fight against Marlon Moraes he lost via split decision on the judge’s scorecards. Not to mention Dana White was a strong believer that Aldo was robbed of a victory. It is unprecedented that a fighter receives a shot at the title (vacant title in this case) following a loss.

“I’ve pretty much said a million times how I feel about that. A lot of people felt he won the fight. Jose Aldo’s one of the toughest (fighters). That’s the kid Cejudo wanted. He was next in line for the title shot, how do we go back now and tell him Cejudo retired, so you don’t get the fight”?

“If people disagree with that fight, you know my point of view on that, don’t watch it. Don’t watch the fight if you don’t like it. Aldo’s been around forever, the guy’s a warrior, and to say Aldo doesn’t deserve anything is ridiculous”.

Dana White remains steadfast in his decision to give Jose Aldo an opportunity to extend his legacy in MMA. Additionally, becoming a two divisional champion would bolster Aldo’s hefty resume and bring him back in the GOAT conversations.
