Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar gave his verdict on the upcoming bantamweight title match between Jose Aldo and Petr Yan.

Rising contender Petr Yan will face off against legendary Brazilian fighter, Jose Aldo. The bout will take place on July 11 at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

Frankie Edgar on Jose Aldo vs Petr Yan

Edgar took on Aldo twice and lost both times via a unanimous decision. As of now, “The Answer” is on a two-fight skid. He lost his last match against Chan Sung Jung in December 2019.

The American fighter’s next bout will take place at bantamweight against Pedro Munhoz. Before his scheduled match, Edgar spoke with MMA Junkie in an exclusive interview.

Among other things, he talked about the upcoming matchup between Jose Aldo and Petr Yan. He believes that it’s a tough fight to call. However, he leans towards Yan as he is young.

“I really don’t know. It’s going to be a tough fight. I mean [Jose] Aldo is a legend. If he does win, it wouldn’t be surprising. If I had to pick right now, I think Petr Yan’s surging…”

“But like I said, if Aldo walks away, I wouldn’t be overly surprised either,” Frankie Edgar told Danny Segura of MMA Junkie.

Yan is on a nine-fight win streak. The Russian last competed at UFC 245 in which he dominated the “California Kid,” Urijah Faber. Aldo, on the other hand, lost his last two outings against Alexander Volkanovski and Marlon Moraes.
