Former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is currently running on a 2-fight losing streak. However, he still considers himself to be the top-gunner of the 170 lbs roster.

Moreover, he considers himself to be the mentor of the entire division. Well, that might be a bit harsh to his eligible contemporaries, but ‘The Chosen One’ clearly has a point when he says so.

Woodley seemed unstoppable on his road to greatness until he met Kamaru Usman at UFC 235. While he lost the title and the fight that night, Woodley revealed that he was the one who guided ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

Tyron Woodley wants all the welterweights to thank him

Woodley, slated to go against Colby Covington next, recently sat down with Ariel Helwani to discuss a series of issues. If he manages to get a win against Covington, Woodley can run for the welterweight title yet again.

But he is still the “top guy”, with or without the title. At least, that’s what the American superstar believes.

When Helwani asked him to reflect an opinion on his welterweight dominance, Woodley replied, “Yeah I was the top dude, there was no Carlos Condit, there was no Robbie Lawler’s love, there was no Georges St-Pierre in my sight, there was no Michael Bisping on my sight.”

He added, “ I have mentored Kamaru Usman, I can show you the text messages, ‘Hey how did you feel when you got that belt?’ same thing with Colby.”

However, the alarming point was Woodley claiming that Usman has no legacy without him.

“These guys were mentored by me, they should thank me. Kamaru Usman has no legacy without me,” said ‘The Chosen One’.

‘The Chosen One’ vs ‘The Chaos’

No matter how great Woodley is, his upcoming fight against Colby Covington will clearly draft his future in the promotion. If he loses the fight, ‘The Chosen One’ will no longer be considered as a legitimate threat to the division.

Meanwhile, it will be a crucial fight for Colby Covington too. He suffered a crushing defeat against Kamaru Usman on his last appearance at UFC 245. That said, the upcoming bout will secure another title shot for him.
