Kelvin Gastelum Drops Huge News on His Fight With Israel Adesanya :- “I was probably 60-70% during the fight”

Israel Adesanya is the most talked about fighter in the MMA community at the moment with his historic win over Robert Whittaker in UFC 243. Adesanya won the fight against Whittaker quite easily when you compare it to the fight he had with Kelvin Gastelum for the interim middleweight title.

Kelvin Gastelum went 5 rounds with Israel Adesanya for the interim title. Though Israel Adesanya won the fight against Gastelum it was very competitive. Some would argue that Kelvin Gastelum was winning the fight until the 5th round. Though Gastelum had a reach disadvantage, he had a lot of success in the striking department with Adesanya. However, the performance from Gastelum seems even more impressive when he revealed that he was not able to train for the last two weeks before the fight.

In an interview with TMZ, UFC two-division champion, Henry Cejudo brought up the health issues Gastelum had to deal with going into the fight with Adesanya and said:

” People don’t know this but when Kelvib was at 100 Whittaker did not show up. This man was about 40-50% when he fought Israel Adesanya and he won’t tell you that.”

Kelvin Gastelum suffered from staph infection before his fight with Robert Whittaker, which was canceled because Whittaker pulled out due to injuries. However, he again suffered from staph infection before the fight with Israel Adesanya. Revealing this news on TMZ, Kelvin Gastelum said:

“People don’t really know that. And I don’t come out on media and say that, but yeah I was sick for about two weeks. I got the staph, it came back when I had it in Australia. had conjunctions in my lungs. So I could not really breathe, I was throwing up. So I could not really train for about two weeks. And people don’t really know I stopped taking antibiotics for it 6-7 days before the fight. I was probably 60-70% during the fight.”

What Gastelum did against Israel Adesanya seems even more impressive knowing what he had to go through during the weeks before the fight. 

Kelvin Gastelum is hopeful for another title shot in the near future and he believes a win over Darren Till will get him there. Gastelum said:

” I am the guy to be in this division to be able to get to the title. I feel like if I win this fight, I definitely get that rematch.”

Kelvin Gastelum is going to fight Darren Till in the co-main event of UFC 243 in November this year. Both Till and Gastelum are coming off a loss in their last fight and this will mark the middleweight debut for former welterweight title contender Darren Till.
