The ‘Black Beast’ Derrick Lewis is still on the prowl, and he simply won’t stop until the heavyweight crown sits on his head. The 36-year-old heavyweight fighter found himself at the losing end in his interim title bid earlier this year. This was the second title shot for the knockout artist that he has failed to capitalize on.

However, Derrick isn’t a fighter, who can be easily discouraged. He holds a decision victory over current heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, and is a formidable opponent. He closed out the year with his career’s 21st knockout win against the surging contender Chris Daukaus. Lewis’s wife April was also in attendance for his match and later on, she provided insights about the UFC fighter’s early days and their relationship.

April stated that she is extremely supportive of her husband and was incredibly happy to see him come out victorious. She also stated that the couple has faced all kinds of situations in 13 years of their relationship and is happy to see his career unfold.

She said,” I just wanted to be supportive of him. It was nice to see him win. I’m very proud of him. We’ve been together 13 years. So I’ve seen him, you know he was a triple-A truck driver. I am so excited and proud of him to see how far he has gotten in his career.”

What’s next for Knockout kingpin Derrick Lewis?

Following an impressive knockout victory over Chris, Derrick has once again inserted his name in the title picture. It is unclear who would walk away with UFC gold at 272, but one thing is assured that the winner will most probably have to face the Black Beast.

Lewis is already a massive fan-favorite fighter and his string of epic knockouts has made him a superstar. No other heavyweight in the history of the UFC has knocked out 13 men in the division, which certainly cements his place among the greats.
