Although the aforementioned fight seems like the clear cut choice to many, the UFC has yet to commit to the same. The company President Dana White has refrained from confirming the booking of a fight against Yan and Aldo. Not to mention, he has been hounded over the same by the media whilst he was present in Abu Dhabi.
Petr Yan x Aljamain Sterling: How things play out
‘No Mercy’ clinched UFC gold back at UFC 251 in a historic night of fights that took place inside the Flash Forum in Abu Dhabi. He defeated former 145-pound champion and future Hall of Famer in Jose Aldo, earning a dominant finish.

The bout was largely competitive until the 5 round with many believing the ‘King of Rio’ had done enough to win. Moreover, the undefeated fighter in Yan asserted his dominance and showed championship grit by putting away Aldo. Petr Yan walked away with Henry Cejudo’s vacant gold strap and will be looking to extend his legacy as a tyrant in the weight class.
Chiefly, Aljamian Sterling has had a traditional rise to the top through the murderous row at 135-pounds. He has managed to put together a series of impressive victories in the division and separate himself as a clear contender. Not to mention, he secured a rare Suloev stretch Submission of the Year winning finish onto his record.

The 19-3 fighter is on an impressive 5-fight win streak that includes top-ranked divisional contenders. Moreover, his last loss came only to number one ranked Marlon Moraes back in December of 2017. With victories over Cory Sandhagen and Pedro Munhoz in his recent outing, Sterling has become impossible to deny.
Fight fans have been clamoring for the booking of the highly anticipated match-up between the two fighters. Stylistically, the bout offers several enticing components that could lead to an explosive fight.
