Speaking to media personnel in the post-fight press conference, he said, “I was about to stand and smash a few times. Did you see him almost shooting? And I was like, ‘get the f**k out of here. He didn’t want to get caught in that.”

Diaz clearly wasn’t much impressed with what Chimaev was trying to do and called out the Swedish fighter during the presser.

Why did the UFC Boss replace Khamzat Chimaev?

A day before the fight, UFC 279 witnessed a shuffle in its scheduled bout. Nate Diaz was supposed to face Chimaev in the main event of UFC 279 on Saturday night. However, things changed when the Swedish could not make the weight. The bout was all set to take place at Welterweight.

Next, the problem increased more when Diaz denied going head-to-head at a catchweight. This resulted in a big change in cards. To keep the event going, The UFC decided to rearrange the fights. Chimaev ultimately faced Kevin Holland. On the other hand, the UFC legend Tony Ferguson came up as an opponent to face Diaz.

Interestingly, both fighters of the main event emerged victorious. In the co-main event, Chimaev made the bout one-sided. From the beginning, he relied on his wrestling skills and tried to take Holland down. Though the latter tried his best, he could not do much. In the third minute of round one, he fell prey to Chimaev’s neck hold after struggling for a minute on the floor.

However, it did not mean, Holland was an easy target. He stepped inside the octagon with 2 fight winning streak.

On the other hand, Diaz faced UFC veteran Tony Ferguson. Both battled for four rounds and gave it their all. Finally, in the fourth round, Diaz choked Ferguson and forced him to submit.
