Jorge Masvidal has the biggest opportunity of his long professional career ahead of him. This weekend, he will face Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title. However, that doesn’t mean he has forgotten about his fights from the past. Masvidal is still keeping an eye out for a rematch against Nate Diaz.

During Masvidal’s dispute with the UFC for higher pay, Nate Diaz didn’t chide away from backing up his former opponent. He even gave his approval when the UFC announced Masvidal as a replacement. If Masvidal wins this weekend, he won’t be thinking hard about giving Diaz a shot at the title.

“There are two guys on my radar heavy. Nate is one of them,” Jorge Masvidal said while talking to Ariel Helwani. “No matter what it was a good fight. Me or the world didn’t get the results that we wanted. I know Nate wants to run it back. Speaking from the heart, I wanna run it back. When I get this title nothing would be better to give him the opportunity. He gave me to fight for his BMF belt. Come on. Come fight for this belt now. I’ll hand him over the favor.”

Jorge Masvidal reveals the other fighter he wants to fight apart from Nate Diaz

Masvidal and Diaz fought for the BMF belt last year. The fight lived to the fan’s expectations. However, the end was rather disappointing. At the end of the third round, the doctor ruled that Diaz wouldn’t be able to continue. A fight that was supposed to be the crowning of the BMF ended in a rather anticlimatic fashion.

Ever since the referee raised Masvidal’s hand, there has been a call for a rematch between the two.

While Masvidal had the better of Diaz in their contest, the same isn’t true for Masvidal’s other hopeful fight. Before his hype train came along, Masvidal was somewhat in a slump. He was coming off back-to-back losses against Demian Maia and Stephen Thompson in 2017.

Masvidal feels he wasn’t near his peak form when he fought Thompson. Hence, the BMF champ is looking to even the score against ‘Wonderboy’ in the future.

“Another dude that I’m definitely gonna be scrapping with at some point is [Stephen] Thompson. Not cause of anything personal. I got nothing but love and respect for this individual. But I would just love to run it back. I think I could do better than that night when we first met,” Masvidal added.

Masvidal fighting for the belt comes as a surprise given the circumstances. However, one will agree that Diaz fighting for the belt wouldn’t be what anyone would have ever expected.
