With less than two weeks remaining for UFC 252, the Nevada Athletic Commission has assigned a referee for the main event. Referee Marc Goddard will oversee the fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier for the UFC heavyweight belt.
Goddard is a seasoned MMA referee who has more than 20 years of experience in the business. He has been very busy lately providing his services at UFC’s events in Fight Island. He was the official in the fight headlined the main event of UFC 251 between Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman. Moreover, he was the official inside the Octagon in the flyweight championship bout between Deiveson Figueiredo and Joseph Benavidez.
The commission assigned Goddard the duty in its monthly meeting. This was after he received a recommendation from Nevada Athletic Commission director Bob Bennett. MMA Junkie first reported the news.

The U.K. based official is a pretty common face inside the Octagon for the past some time. He has also been nominated for the World MMA Awards under the Referee of the Year category. Goddard is famous for his work with the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMF). The IMF is solely for amateurs mixed martial artists.
Despite all this, Goddard has always found himself stuffed between situations he wouldn’t have wished to be in. The most recent one includes a fight where a fighter was involved in a physical altercation with him following a stoppage.
Goddard was also the official in Kamaru Usman’s first title defense against Colby Covington. The former interim champ feels that Goddard robbed him of the win. However, the seasoned referee knows that as an official he can’t respond to the former ATT fighter. Hence, he couldn’t care less about what he says.

The two have shared the results of the previous two outings between them. DC knocked out Miocic in the first fight and the latter returned the favor in the second. Having said that, it is clear that there will be a lot more than just the UFC heavyweight belt on the line. There will also be the unofficial title of UFC heavyweight GOAT up for grabs for the one who wins the contest.

Along with the referee, the NAC also finalized the judges for the trilogy. Derek Cleary, Sal D’Amato, and Junichiro Kamijo will be the ones everyone will look up to if the fight goes the distance. While referee Marc Goddard will receive $1,900 for his work, the three judges will get $1,600 each.
