Amid talks of a potential return for GSP, Abdelaziz shoots down any hopes of McGregor getting a shot at the UFC veteran. The Canadian fighter is one of the greater fighters ever to have fought in the UFC. Hanging up his gloves way back in 2017, GSP made a comeback to take on Michael Bisping in 2017. A bout that ended in favor of the Canadian by way of submission.
Abdelaziz and the Irishman have been at each other’s throats for years. And when asked about GSP’s return, the Egyptian national agrees to the fact that Khabib may take on the veteran. However, he laughs off the possibility of McGregor getting in on the action.

“Conor is irrelevant right now. Listen, Khabib is number 1. Number 2, Gaethje, and Tony. Conor is number 4. Why are we even talking about Conor? Nobody Cares about Conor. Conor had an opportunity to fight Gaethje, now, Gaethje’s going to fight for the title and Conor’s going to sit in a stand watching, or maybe he’s like illegally streaming the pay-per-view.”- Ali Abdelaziz to Brett Okamoto

Ali Abdelaziz Blames the Media
Towards the end of the interview, Abdelaziz continues to demolish Conor with his words. However, he feels the real culprit here is the media. Because it is the media who has created such a persona for the Notorious One, as per the Egyptian.
“You know what the problem is? The media created Conor. We always talk about Conor. I am talking about high-level fighters, I am talking about killers. We are not talking about money fights.”- Ali Abdelaziz

As Abdelaziz puts it, McGregor is a cash cow who is brought in so as to bring in money. But when it comes to fighting and winning, there is nothing that Conor brings to the table.
“We are talking about money? Yes, bring Conor but if you are talking about No.1 contender? Conor doesn’t even belong in there. He is No.4 right now.”- Ali Abdelaziz
However, Okamoto seems a little pinched when Abdelaziz blames the media. The journalist goes on to clarify that no one in the media feels Conor deserves a shot at the title yet.
