Less than 24 hours ago, the UFC just wrapped up its fifth event with no audience. Gilbert Burns vs Tyron Woodley served as the main event for the night. And as expected, the fight delivered. The 33-year-old was on five-fight win streak before facing off against the #1 contender, Tyron Woodley. After dominating Woodley in a five-round battle, his rank is bound to rise.

This victory also puts him in an interesting spot. The Brazilian can now stake his claim at the title shot against his teammate and current welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman. Unlike Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez, these two friends will not shy away from facing each other.

Dana White on what’s next for Kamaru Usman

“Tuesday, we’ll get back into that matchmaking room and we’ll get that worked out. If you look at the divisions and the way they are heating up right now, thank God we’re four fights in right now after the break. These things are heating up to make some really fun fights for summer, Dana White told the Media.”

When asked about the future of Usman, Dana said that there aren’t any plans as of now.

Indeed, many factors have to be considered before matching up two fighters, especially in these times. The Coronavirus has made it difficult for fighters to move around. Besides that, the rankings also have to be considered.

White explains the matchmaking process

“So when we get in and start working on these fights, the guys will download me and say, ‘Well he’s saying this and this guy is saying that.’ It’s not as easy as people think where we just go, ‘Oh! This guy and that guy.’ It’s not that easy, I wish it was that easy.”
