Relive the flying armbar finish by Demetrious Johnson at UFC 216.

When the UFC introduced its flyweight division, Johnson became its first-ever champion. Known for his speed and elusive striking, ‘Mighty Mouse’ proved to be a wrecking machine in the company.

Throughout his career, Johnson has achieved many feats. He co-holds the record for the latest submission win at 4:59 seconds in the fifth round. ‘DJ’ also landed the most takedowns in the flyweight division.

Demetrious Johnson pulls off an insane submission

At UFC 216, Johnson faced off against Ray Borg in the co-main event.

Johnson dominated the fight. The skill discrepancy was evident right from the get-go. He got the better of Borg on the feet as well as on the ground.

Just when the audience thought that it would be another decision victory for Johnson, something spectacular happened in the fifth round.

Following a scuffle on the ground, Borg tried to scramble to his feet. Although he was successful, Johnson had a better position.

Demetrious suplexed Borg, and before Borg could hit the ground, he transitioned to an armbar. The ‘Tazmexican Devil’ tried everything he could to get out of it. But at that point, the submission was fully locked in. There was nothing Borg could have done.

It was Johnson’s 11th title defense. He surpassed Anderson Silva’s record of 10 title defenses, cementing him as one of the greatest mixed martial artists on the planet. Following his win over Ray Borg, Johnson attempted to defend his title against Henry Cejudo for the second time.

Unfortunately, he lost a very close decision to Cejudo. Many people still believe that ‘DJ’ should have been granted the victory. Sadly, we never got to see a trilogy as Johnson was traded off to ONE Championship for Ben Askren.

As of now, Demetrious is 3-0 in ONE Championship. His last match happened on 12 October 2019; he won the One Championship’s Flyweight Grand Prix. The pound-for-pound king defeated Danny Kingad via a unanimous decision.
