With UFC 254 in the rear-view mirror, the promotion now looks forward to the next big event of the year. UFC 255 will take place on November 21. However, one of the most anticipated fights, a welterweight bout between Mike Perry and Robbie Lawler, may not be present on the main card.
During the broadcast of UFC 254, the promotion gave us a peek into its next big event. Two flyweight title fights will be the center of attraction for the event. Newly crowned flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo will defend his title for the first time against Alex Perez. Women’s flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko will also put her belt on the line against Jennifer Maia.

As per a report from ESPN last month, the UFC had booked a fight between Perry and Lawler for UFC 255. However, when the UFC released the main card lineup, it did not have that fight.
On top of it, the UFC website also has no mention so far about Lawler vs Perry among the fights that are a done deal for UFC 255.
What are the possible reasons for the absence of Mike Perry vs Robbie Lawler?
When reports came out about the welterweight clash, the fans were pumped about it. Lawler is a former champion who seems to be nearing the end of a tenured career in the UFC. Facing him will be a bright prospect who still hasn’t lived up to his full potential, but may very well be coming into his own.
The most fan-friendly explanation of the fight being absent from the main card could be that the UFC took it down to the prelims. However, given the nature of the two opponents, this seems highly unlikely. Yet another reason could be that the UFC may have decided to postpone it to a future event.

The news has come at a time when Mike Perry’s ex-wife has spoken out on the alleged abuse by the welterweight. 28-year-old Danielle Nickerson told MMA Junkie that Perry abused her several times, with the most brutal one coming in February earlier this year.
UFC President Dana White has accepted that he doesn’t know a great deal about the incident. As of now, the UFC is yet to make a statement regarding the accusations levied against Perry.
