Max Holloway knows he is capable enough to help those in need. With a global pandemic wiping out jobs in most of the USA, the unemployment rates are at an all-time high. Hence, Holloway is looking to help the people of Hawaii by doing charity after his championship fight at UFC 251.
Holloway will fight featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski in an attempt to regain the 145-pounds belt that he lost last year. Inspired by fellow UFC fighters, Dustin Poirier and Khabib Nurmagomedov, Holloway will auction his fight kit. The money that he raises will be donated to the Food Bank of Hawaii. This way Holloway will give back to a community that is ravaged by unemployment.
“Shoutout to my brothers Khabib and Dustin. When they came here in September and did their thing it motivated me. Especially with the pandemic and stuff. Ninety-five percent of our work now is to help charity. What we’re gonna do is my whole fight kit we’re gonna auction it,” Max Holloway said during UFC 251 media day scrum.

“Every single penny we make of it we’re gonna donate it to the food bank of Hawaii. The unemployment rate in Hawaii is like forty percent. An all-time high. I’m getting food on my table. So if I can try to give back to my people and try to get food on their table then this is the way to do it,” Holloway added.
Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier fought in Abu Dhabi last year in September. Right after the fight, the two swapped T-shirts in an emotional gesture. Khabib declared that he would auction the T-shirt with the money going to Poirier’s non-profit organization. Dana White also promised to match the donation.
Dustin Poirier is an inspiration for Max Holloway
Dustin Poirier has made excellent use of the platform that he has to support the people in his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana. The Good Fight Foundation, Poirier’s charity, was established with a mission of being committed to helping those in need and to fighting to change the world. His wife has also supported him in the venture.

The UFC recognized Poirier’s efforts by honoring him with the inaugural Forrest Griffin Community Award. Poirier’s approach towards helping others has served as a great motivation for Holloway.
“Again shoutout to my brothers Khabib and Dustin. They’ve been paving the way and doing it. Especially Dustin you know. He’s inspired me in a lot of ways outside of fighting. We’re more than athletes. We’re trying to be bigger than the sport. This is one of the things that I know I can help my people so why not,” Holloway said.
