The tweet from ‘The Notorious’ comes as a direct result of recent comments made by his rival on social media. Nate Diaz spoke out on the events that recently unfolded at UFC 251. He went on to express his views on certain controversies surrounding the co-main event. The Irishman however appeared to be in no mood to entertain mentions of the active roster.

Conor McGregor x Nate Diaz: A brief history

The two elite fighters have a storied relationship that occurred under somewhat unpredictable circumstances. 209’s favorite son stepped in to fight McGregor on short notice at UFC 196 following withdrawal from then-champion Rafael Dos Anjos. The fight was a blockbuster attraction in terms of draws, further bolstered by the fact that Diaz secured a finish.

Additionally, the two 170-pounders were booked for an immediate rematch of dramatic proportions at UFC 202. ‘The Notorious’ would pick up the rematch with a decision win over Stockton’s second son, thus further leaving the door open for a possible trilogy.

In light of these events, a third booking was considered to be a foregone conclusion in the minds of many fans. However, almost 4 years down the road, the entire narrative around the megastar athletes has shifted.

Conor McGregor recently announced that he was stepping away from the bright lights of the octagon. Many fans were quick to speculate the validity of his claim, as he reiterated a similar sentiment in the past. However, a few months on, there remains no mention of the former dual champions return.

Moreover, given the recent animosity, it remains certain that a rubber match to settle the score is on the cards. Chiefly, with the absence of a live audience, fight fans will have to wait for the fight to materialize.
