It has been nearly a week since Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker tore the house down. Their fight deservedly claimed the Fight of the Night award at UFC on ESPN 12. However, in the stacked lightweight division, ‘The Diamond’ needs to stay active if he is to go for the belt.

In a chat with Danny Segura of MMA Junkie, the American Top Team Coach branded his trainee a massive draw who the fans want to see. He said, “Obviously he’s a draw, he’s a guy that puts on a show. He’s a guy that people want to see, he delivers every time. It’s wild, it’s chaos, it’s fight of the year, fight of the night. Somebody’s getting messed up. He delivers every time.”

Brown did not commit to a fight but he didn’t dismiss it either. He said, “Yea I mean they are 2 fan favorites. Both super exciting guys every fight is chaos. I mean that’s a monster fight. I have no idea where Nate is right now where he stands on what he wants to do. But of course, this is a big fight that everybody would be excited about.”

Diaz, who largely competes at Welterweight was to make his return at UFC 230 in 2018. Here he had been booked to fight ‘The Diamond’ in a Lightweight contest. However, as Poirier pulled out, ‘The Stockton Slugger’ did not pick another opponent. As a result, he extended his hiatus until 2019.

Diaz is yet to compete in 2020. He made his last appearance at Madison Square Garden in the UFC 244 main event. On the night he went down via doctor stoppage to Jorge Masvidal.
‘The Diamond’ and Diaz even had a little social media banter at the start of the year. However, nothing materialized from it. For Poirier, anything other than a title shot, or a no.1 contender battle against 3rd ranked Tony Ferguson will be a step out of his path back to being a championship fight. Nevertheless, the Diaz fight is certainly interesting. Do you see it happening?
