Colby Covington is back in the news. However, this time around, it is not for his trash-talking, but rather for consequences stemming from the same. Recently, the American Top Team had removed Colby’s name from its website. Subsequently, there were speculations about the severed ties between the fighter and the gym. Colby has decided to put a stop to the rumors and tell fans the truth.

While talking to Ariel Helwani, the former interim champ said that the rumors of him leaving his gym are true. The troubles stemming from Colby’s trash-talk is believed to be the main reason for the same. He has not even spared his promotional stablemates such as Jorge Masvidal, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, and Dustin Poirier.

“That is correct,” Colby told Ariel. “I am affiliated with Colby Covington Inc. as of now. I love Dan. Dan Lambert is still a great friend of mine. He’s a mentor and second father to me. Dan Lambert gave me an opportunity. I can’t thank him enough. He’s good people. But it’s time to move on Ariel. Everybody knows all good things come to an end. I’ve fulfilled my debts there. I was there for ten years. I started my journey there at American Top Team. And you know we went to the top.

Despite his relations ending with ATT, Colby still has a lot of respect for his coach, Dan Lambert. It was Lambert who took Colby under his wings a decade ago when he came into MMA. Colby could never win the undisputed belt under Lambert’s tutelage. Nonetheless, Covington prides himself on giving his coach something which none of his proteges have given him.

“Dan Lambert has everything. He’s got UFC belts, he’s got WEC belts, he’s got Pride belts, he’s got WWE belts. But you know what I feel going in there and doing something that he’s never done before, I was able to take him to the White House. So I feel like I am fulfilled my debts. And we had a great run together,” Colby said.

The next big question that hovers over Colby is where will he take his talents to. Owing to his aggressive trash-talking, Colby has made enemies everywhere. The other major gym in Florida is the Blackzilians. However, the fact that Welterweight kingpin Kamaru Usman trains there will be a deal-breaker for Covington.

Colby doesn’t seem to be thinking too much about his future as of now. He seemed positive regarding the transition, comparing it to how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. “It’s time to move on, you know. We’re evolving and we’re growing. Just like the saying goes Ariel, the sun sets, the sun rises, the caterpillar turns into a butterfly.”
