Jorge Masvidal lost his title shot against Kamaru Usman in UFC 251. But his following is such that fans took no time in attributing the loss to his shortage of enough preparation time. This gave birth to the talks of a potential rematch between the two. But as of now, this possibility seems far-fetched.

Kamaru Usman was already scheduled to fight Leon Edwards as per the latter’s tweet. This was even before Gilbert Burns, but things went south for both of them. The Gamebred saw this opportunity and took it head-on. But now that he has lost, what is the near future holding for him?

Is it gonna be Jorge Masvidal vs Leon Edwards?

It was UFC Fight Night 147 when both Darren Till and Gunnar Nelson had tasted loss against Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards, respectively. But what should have been a night to celebrate, instead became a night to forget. The two winners got involved in a backstage brawl and things got nasty.

Now, Leon has given an interview to SCMP MMA where he has made crazy bad blood claims. He said, “If it’s about Gilbert or Masvidal, I prefer Masvidal for what happened in London backstage you know we’ve got genuine beef between us you know, that’d be a bigger fight, a more intense fight.”

He is on an eight-match winning momentum and this would make for a great battle, given Masvidal’s popularity.

The equation is more complex than ever

Consider this, Jorge Masvidal wants to fight Kamaru Usman because he wants another shot at the UFC Championship. But Dana White has already said that Gilbert Burns is the top contender for challenging the Nigerian Nightmare’s reign. So if Burns wins his match, would The Gamebred still be interested in fighting Usman?

Moreover, if the Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal rematch takes shape and Masvidal takes a loss, his intention to challenge a UFC Champion will take a blow. One other angle is Conor McGregor’s possible comeback. Although his coach had hinted about him moving to the middleweight category, we may never know when the other shoe drops.

The only thing we are sure of is that Jorge Masvidal is not going to fight Colby Covington. The former friends have said some bad things for one another lately. But as far as a fight goes, at least The Gamebred has denied it, calling Colby a “punk.” Maybe this was a response to Covington tagging him as a Journeyman.

A lot is to be seen before we get any confirmation. But we have our eyes on them all! Stay tuned.
