Tyron Woodley vs Colby Covington is happening almost two years late. Nevertheless, the fight between the two is a grudge match that both of them would want to win at any cost. However, the stakes are higher for Woodley compared to Covington, as he risks succumbing to a three-fight losing streak. Consequently, we look at the most realistic ways for Woodley to come out on top.

A former champion, Woodley has been a mere shadow of himself in his past two fights. The first one was when he lost the belt to Kamaru Usman last year in a one-sided affair. Gilbert Burns thwarted his attempt to bounce back in their fight earlier this year. Therefore, Woodley is on thin ice and needs a win to resurrect his career.

For a must-win fight, Woodley may have picked the toughest matchup stylistically available at this point. For Woodley to win the fight, he will have to avoid getting his back to the fence. Covington is more of a volume striker who doesn’t have the same knockout power as Woodley. Therefore, maybe the former champ could think about getting his hands lower to stuff the takedown attempts by ‘Chaos’.

Tyron Woodley has also had success when fighting against southpaws. If he plans to get his hand raised, he will have to look to land his right hand. Moreover, he’ll have to find his spot before Covington gets in the groove.

The two have also trained together at American Top Team, which was where their beef began. However, Covington has been unexpectedly quiet in the build-up to the fight. Regardless, Woodley will have to keep his emotions under check.

Woodley’s coach Din Thomas puts it correctly when he said that his protege should turn into his aggressive twenty-five-year-old self when he fights Covington. Woodley needs a win desperately to stay relevant in a division full of fighters waiting to climb the ranks. The former champ will have to pull off an upset if he wants to beat Covington.
