UFC Heavyweight Alistair Overeem expressed his views on the trajectory of his career in an interview with MMA Junkie. The former title challenger spoke out on his position in the sport and his future in the organization going forward. Alistair Overeem is currently preparing to train again after his victory against Walt Harris back in May.

The Demolition Man’ is one of the most accomplished strikers in MMA, having won titles in various promotions. Overeem was the Dream and Strikeforce Heavyweight championship as well as the K-1 Grand Prix champion. However, the veteran could not capture the UFC strap so far in his career.

The 40-year-old Elevation team fighter fell short in his outing against Stipe Miocic at UFC 203. Since then he hasn’t been able to string together well-defined victories to reclaim a shot at gold. Not to mention the heavyweight division has been log-jammed at the top as Miocic and Cormier could not finalize a bout agreement.

The tables may be turning for Overeem as he has gone 3-1 in his last four. The loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik came late in the 5 round of a fight Alistair was comfortably winning. He believes that with a few more high profile victories, he will be able to ascend to contention.

“I am very satisfied being very dedicated all my career. That really gives me all the confidence. The UFC title would be the crown on that career, but I don’t know. My career has so many beautiful moments. Even the last victory was a beautiful moment.

“I mean, for Walt, it was a little bit less nice. Even for him, I think it was – he got back in the octagon, he had a good performance, he got very close to victory and, yeah, I don’t know, just keep fighting.

“I love fighting, I love training, I love preparing for fights. I guess I’m good at it after doing it for 27 years so, yeah, just keep doing what I’m doing.”

Regardless of whether ‘The Demolition Man’ wins the UFC championship, he appears to be content with his career. Chiefly, he is one of the few fighters who could likely go into the Hall of Fame without capturing the strap. It remains to be seen whether the 40-year-old can make a late run to the top.
