Khabib Nurmagomedov and his family have had a tough time due to the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, the Lightweight Champion claimed to have lost multiple family members to the virus. Furthermore, the family patriarch Abdulmanap contracted pneumonia-like symptoms which caused his health to deteriorate. Later doctors identified it as the COVID-19, which has hospitalized him for the better part of the last 2 months. Now ‘The Eagle’ has provided a health update on his ailing father.

Khabib Nurmagomedov says his father does not have the coronavirus anymore

In a chat with Russia’s Channel One, Khabib Nurmagomedov provided news about his father. Here he revealed the despite being cured, the virus has caused severe damage. Despite this, Nurmagomedov Sr. gives signs that he recognizes his visitor.

As per a translation by Igor Lazorin, ‘The Eagle’ said, Now father’s condition is still serious. He is in intensive care. The coronavirus is gone, but the infection has left consequences on the kidneys and on the heart. Now virus gone. I come to hospital.

“He recognizes me, but there is no communication because he is under the hospital devices. Every day, I visit him for half an hour, hold his hand, talk, he gestures to understand that he recognizes me.”

Abdulmanap can function on his own and is off the medically induced coma. Hence, Khabib retains his faith in medical professionals in getting his father healthy. 

“I am sure of the doctors, they are one of the best in the world, I have no doubt. Thanks so much for everything they do. In this regard, everything is very good. It just takes time, because the consequences are very difficult and the rehabilitation period will be difficult and long.”

In conclusion, ‘The Eagle’ addressed his return to the UFC. He is set to fight Interim Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje in a unification bout this fall.

As per the translation, the 31-year-old revealed that he maintains his intense regimen. This is because his father wouldn’t want him to slack off due to him. ‘The Eagle’ credits his training as a stress reliever that provides him a temporary distraction from all that is happening.
