Dan Hooker and Dustin Poirier are all set to main event the UFC Fight Night on the 27th of June. Given the retirement of Conor McGregor and the decimation of Tony Ferguson, the fight could have major implications on the Lightweight division. This is because it features the 3rd ranked contender taking on the 5th ranked contender. All eyes are on the fight with the Interim Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje dismissing ‘The Hangman’s chances ahead of a fight he claims would “have to be stupid to not take.”

Justin Gaethje dismisses Dan Hooker

‘The Highlight’ retweeted an MMA Fighting piece where Hooker said he feels “he can put Dustin away.” He bases his comments on his last fight against Paul Felder in the main event of Fight Night: Felder vs Hooker. In this regard, he claims that ‘The Diamond’ will not be able to take a shot as well as ‘The Irish Dragon.’ He said, “I don’t think Poirier has the chin Felder does.”

Gaethje will know about ‘The Diamond’s ability to take a punch as well as dish it out. This is because despite his wrestling background adopts a stand-up striking style which did not help him at UFC on Fox: Poirier vs Gaethje. He went down via TKO to Poirier in April 2018 which remains his last defeat.

‘The Hangman’ is currently on 3 fight win streak. He has beaten James Vick at UFC on ESPN: dos Anjos vs Edwards, Al Iaquinta at UFC 243, and Paul Felder.

Meanwhile, ‘The Diamond’ was in the ascendancy in the division and held the Interim Lightweight Championship. Later he fell to the dominant Khabib Nurmagomedov via a 4th round rear-naked choke at UFC 242. Before that, in addition to Gaethje, he had taken down Anthony Pettis, Eddie Alvarez, and Max Holloway.

Do you agree with the UFC Interim Lightweight Champion’s predictions on the fight? Or will ‘The Hangman’ silence his divisional fighter and live up to his pre-fight expectations of “putting Dustin away and earning a title shot.”
