Despite Cody Garbrandt’s recent move to flyweight, reigning UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan feels that a fight with the former champion is unavoidable.

Ever since Petr Yan and Cody Garbrandt bumped into each other backstage at UFC 245, the duo has been going back and forth on social media. After Yan’s win at UFC 251, Garbrandt trashed the Russian’s performance on Twitter. Check out the full story here.

Petr Yan ridicules Cody Garbrandt

Many fans would love to see these two go at it inside the cage. But the fight may not materialize so soon, as Garbrandt is moving down a weight class to challenge Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255. Nevertheless, Yan believes that their meeting will be inevitable if Garbrandt can claim the flyweight title, as he is confident in defending his belt against Aljamain Sterling.

“Yeah, I believe our fight is still gonna happen in the future, why not? If he gonna win the 125 lbs title, and I’m gonna beat Sterling. This is the fight to make, you know? I’ll be the next one to beat his glass jaw,” Petr Yan said on ‘The Bash’ podcast.

No doubt that a fight between Cody and Yan would be absolute fireworks. However, both men have dangerous opponents in front of them. On one side, Aljamain Sterling is desperate to snatch the belt off Yan. The “Funk Master” is on a five-fight win streak against some of the best competitors in the bantamweight division.

On the other hand, Deiveson Figueiredo will try to take Garbrandt’s head off. “Daico” is too strong for the division. In his last two fights, he decimated Joseph Benavidez to cement himself as one of the top flyweights in the UFC. Besides that, it will be unchartered territory for Garbrandt since it is his first time competing at 125 lbs.
