Back in 2016, a large part of the world was in the grip of mass hysteria for people wearing in clown masks, with several such sightings. However, former UFC double champ Conor McGregor made it clear that no one should dare arrive in front of him wearing a clown mask.

Four years back, a large number of people reported sightings of clowns in incongruous settings such as near forests and schools. The first reported incident in Wisconsin turned out to be a marketing stunt. Regardless, the sightings spread to eighteen other countries as well.

In a Facebook interview with the LAD Bible, Conor McGregor responded to the scary-clown epidemic.

“I’ve seen people dressed up as clowns or something like that. I would slap the head off of one (clown). You see some guy jumping out screaming in your face dressed in a clown mask? I’d slap the head of him pull the clown mask off and stick it up his a–! You know what I mean? What the f–k even is that? I don’t what the f–k even is that,” McGregor said.

“Have people been killed or what? I haven’t heard that people have been killed. You’ve heard that maybe there’s stabbing and stuff like that but… I don’t know it’s f–ked up! I don’t know it’s f–ked up. Just don’t come near me in a clown suit. In fact, don’t come near me period. Come near me and I’ll slap the head off you, anyway. But if you’re in a clown suit, I’ll slap the head off you even more so.”

Conor McGregor is currently hoping for a return to the Octagon in 2020

Back when Conor McGregor made the above statements, he was about to fight Eddie Alvarez for his second UFC belt. The Irishman would go on to knock out Alvarez. Consequently, he would become the first UFC fighter to hold multiple belts in the UFC simultaneously.

Four years later, McGregor is at a completely different stage in his career. He has tasted superstardom and is now looking back to regain his stature in the Octagon. After making a return at the start of the year against Donald Cerrone, ‘Mystic Mac’ is currently hoping to book a fight against Dustin Poirier.

If he succeeds in defeating Poirier, it could open the gates for a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, for the same to happen, the lightweight kingpin will have to defeat Justin Gaethje in his next fight.
