UFC President Dana White fought a long battle to make UFC 249 happen on 18 April. And he won.

However, UFC’s partner ESPN and Disney thought it wasn’t a great idea to carry on with the event. And ultimately, Dana respected the wishes of his long-time partners. He officially announced that UFC 249 will not take place on 18 April. But, although he conceded to the demands of his partners, he did not shy away from declaring that he can still go on April 18 if it is up to him.

And, from the looks of it, White has the backing of Tony Ferguson. The UFC 249 has been a rough road for “El Cucuy.” From rumors regarding the cancellation of the event ever since the beginning to Khabib Nurmagomedov pulling out of the fight, the mental toll on Tony has been huge.

Nevertheless, he has carried on unabashed, willing to overcome any odds to finally get his hands on Lightweight Gold.

Who will Tony Ferguson face next?

Both Ferguson and Justin Gaethje were ready to face-off on 18 April. However, the postponement of the event might bring in whole new scenarios.

For starters, “The Eagle” might fly back into action. This will make the original bout a reality, for which Justin Gaethje was but a replacement.

The original fight also makes more sense, as Tony is already the number one contender for the belt. And with the 12-fight-win streak he is on, he deserves nothing but the best. Of course, the best either is a title fight. Or a fight that will reap him exceptional monetary benefits.

The latter points towards “The Notorious” Conor McGregor. While he, too, is stuck in Ireland at the moment, he is training hard to jump into action. Moreover, a win over Ferguson will put him next in line to face Khabib, which is a rematch he dearly wants.

Thus, it all depends on the next proposed timeline for the event, and the nation-wise situation regarding the coronavirus. And if both the top contenders [whom Ferguson would prefer to fight] cannot make it yet again, “The Highlight” is always eager to jump into the octagon with the “terrorizing” Ferguson.
