In the video, ‘The Beast’ shows that he received the wrong order of food, which included someone else’s meal. Coincidentally, the misplaced order belonged to none other than Aleksei, the man whom he will face in the matter of a few hours.

What triggered the Twitter universe is Derrick’s reaction upon receiving his opponent’s food. He spat into the container and closed the lid.

Even though he meant it as a joke, people lashed out at the insensitivity that Derrick depicted.

Fans lash out at Derrick Lewis for his behavior

Here are some instances where fans disapproved of Derrick’s take at humor-

“Dude I am [a] fan of yours but you just disrespected the food here. People are dying of hunger across the world and you did this? Best of luck for the fight.”

“Class, world hunger, respect… [I] guess none of those things matter.”

Man why you gotta act like a 9-year-old? This [ain’t] it… [that’s] a perfectly good meal someone could eat homie…”

“Waste of food man, starving people out there”

“Disgusting derek. Think of the kids.”

Even though most commenters disagreed with what Derrick did, others rallied in his support. They claimed that the food would not have reached hungry kids either way.

In the midst of all the aggression, few came up with a middle ground for the argument.

That was nasty bro haha. You’re better than that. To all the people going overboard, saying someone could have [eaten] that meal, I can guarantee, because of [COVID-19], they would NEVER let anyone eat that anyway. Not the best work from the beast, but let’s not go crazy.”

Furthermore, such debates regarding the difference between humor and disrespect are increasing by the day. Although some believe that sensitivity must rise, others believe that ‘over-sensitivity’ is paving that path towards intolerance.
