Chris Weidman may have bitten off more than he can chew. Ever since Israel Adesanya defeated Paulo Costa at UFC 253, he has been active on social media in trying to get the next title shot against the current middleweight champion.

Although the former champion is 2-5 in his last seven UFC fights, the ‘All American’ remains optimistic in his abilities. He tweeted, “Heyyy I just realized I have 2 common opponents with Adesanya…Gastelum who I finished. Then Silva who I finished twice. Adesanya squeaked by decisions on both of those guys.. Adesanya is just another Silva without the black belt in Jitsu. Easy Money.”

Weidman stopped the legendary Anderson Silva on two separate occasions. The wins helped push him to superstar status. Subsequently, he also got a convincing finish of Gastelum. However, that was a different era in the UFC and the sport has moved on since. Hence, ‘The Last Stylebender’s’ response hasn’t gone down well with the former champion.

He accused Adesanya of being and promised to crush him. The former middleweight champion tweeted, “You were very nice to my face that night to be talking like that on your phone. Two faced as hell! I would grab your weak ass and crush you! YOU remember our interactions that night and YOU know this is a problem you don’t want”

Adesanya always carries a certain ego, and rightly so due to his meteoric rise to stardom in the UFC. While showcasing his flashy, fan-friendly striking abilities obtained from his kickboxing background, Stylebender held nothing back. He rebuked, “I know how to f**k up your single and double leg attacks, I’m 10 steps ahead like I said.”

Is there any possibility of Israel Adesanya vs Chris Weidman?

Although the former champion is coming off a win in his last UFC fight, things haven’t been going his way. He has been plagued with injuries and suffered KO losses to top contenders such as Dominick Reyes (light heavyweight debut) and Yoel Romero.

Meanwhile, Adesanya has been very active on social media, getting into recent twitter wars with the former light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. First, the Kiwi fighter will be focused on defending his belt and creating a legacy at 185 pounds. His secondary focus will be on Jon Jones.

Hence, it does not seem likely that Weidman will get his shot against Adesanya. MMA fans cannot hate Weidman for trying, as anything can happen in MMA and the UFC. Moreover, the callout does show that he still has top-level aspirations in the UFC.
