As we inch closer to UFC 249 one can’t help but analyze the various strategies that may be used by Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson. ‘The Highlight’ is a prolific stand-up fighter and wrestler, while Ferguson is as unorthodox as it gets. Despite, being a replacement for Khabib Nurmagomedov, Gaethje can surely stand his ground in the division. With a stunning record of (21-2), he’ll prove to be a tough test for Tony Ferguson.

“Hopefully he goes to sleep”- Justin Gaethje

“I’m going to attack his body, I’m going to attack his legs, and then whenever he’s worried about those, I’m going to punch him in the head, and hopefully he goes to sleep. If not, he’s probably going to cut me up with some elbows, probably choke me out late in the fight, if I don’t put him to sleep” said Gaethje

Irrespective of Gaethje’s game plan, Tony Ferguson will be his biggest test. ‘El Cucuy’ is notorious for his extremely unorthodox fighting style. Equally comfortable at an orthodox and southpaw stance he’s sure to cause problems especially if they trade blows standing-up. Moreover, Ferguson’s ground game is just as good.  His trademark submissions and endurance  , makes him one of the most complete fighters to ever step foot inside the octagon.

“I’m ready to gamble”

Justin Gaethje is  aware of the weapons Ferguson possesses and took a great risk accepting the fight on short notice. However,The prospect of a title shot was something ‘The Highlight’ couldn’t miss out on

“I’ve also never been offered a UFC title and that’s the only thing I’m working for. That’s all I’ve been working for since the beginning, so I’m ready to gamble.” Said Gaethje

Whether this gamble will pay off or not is yet to be seen. But if their previous fights are anything to go by,  fans are in for a treat when these two square off in the octagon.
