Recently, Donald Cerrone talked about his upcoming fight with Anthony Pettis and fighting in an empty arena.

Whether the fight is months away or just a few days ahead, it does not matter to Cerrone. The American has never denied fighting anybody. For years, he has been a company man.

He co-holds the record for most fights in the UFC. However, such an achievement comes at a cost. Fighting 4-6 times a year does not mean that you’re going to be in the best shape for every fight.

For example, take his last fight against Conor McGregor. ‘Cowboy’ did not even last a full minute with the Irishman. He was stopped in just 40 seconds. Nevertheless, he did acknowledge that his head was not in the game.

Another short notice fight for Donald Cerrone

Cerrone admitted that he was not training for a fight. Yet, when the UFC rang his phone, he couldn’t hold back his excitement. He is now scheduled to fight Anthony Pettis on May 9. In an interview with MMA fighting, Cerrone said: “Losing sucks – I don’t care who you are.

“So it’s absolutely something I want to get back. This is my wheelhouse. Taking fights on short notice, when no one else is prepared, and mentally, I’m the strongest. I feel good. I feel hungry. Ready to go out there and do it.”

This won’t be Cowboy’s first encounter with Pettis. Seven years ago, ‘Showtime’ defeated Cerrone with some brutal body shots, followed by strikes to the head. The bout was called off at 2:35 of the very first round.

Despite the loss, Cerrone thinks that Pettis is still a good matchup for him.

“It’s going to be a fun fight,” Cerrone said. “I know what Anthony can do. Stylistically, I match up very well with him. Fun fight, yeah, but the name never matters to me. I never really cared. I’m excited to get in there.”

As far as the empty arena is concerned, Cowboy is not worried. He said that he has fought nobodies with no crowd before. At this point, Cerrone is only bothered about the money.
