Many consider Holloway as one of the greatest featherweights of all time. The Hawaiian had an impressive thirteen-fight win streak at the weight class. At UFC 240, Holloway defeated Frankie Edgar to retain his belt via a unanimous decision. Following that win, he attempted to defend his title against Alexander Volkanovski.

Unfortunately for Holloway, he lost his belt against Volkanovski. Immediately, Holloway was offered a rematch. However, as per Holloway, he never asked for it. The 28-year-old said that Volkanovski wanted the rematch.

If one were to take Holloway’s words seriously, it seems like “The Great” took a page out of Tony Ferguson’s book. Ferguson did a similar thing after his win over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. However, the circumstances were different.

“I didn’t ask for the rematch,” Holloway told MMA Fighting. “I didn’t need to. He asked for it.”

A few days ago, “Blessed” said that he did not even spar for the fight because of lockdown laws. He stated that he did most of his training via Zoom.
“Everything we were doing [was] through Zoom,” Holloway said. “If you got caught at the gym, because there was lockdown and stuff, we all could have gotten arrested. It was a little bit more of a sacrifice for me on my end if I went out there,” Holloway told Ariel Helwani.

Volkanovski discarded Max’s claims. The Australian believes that Holloway is lying about it.

“To be quite honest, I don’t believe that. That’s all sh*t. Whether he’s doing it to cover things on his end — I don’t want to accuse him of anything — but we had to get exemptions to train, so I couldn’t train until I got that done,” Volkanovski told Ariel Helwani.
