Karl Roberson vs Marvin Vettori features on the main card of UFC on ESPN 10. After multiple failed attempts at getting the fight together, it seems that the time has finally arrived. The fight has the potential to be the most exciting fight on the entire card.
The UFC had first booked the pairing for UFC Fight Night 173 on 25th April. However, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the entire event to be canceled. Dana White and the UFC moved the fight to Jacksonville for May 13th. After weighing over the non-title Middleweight limit of 186 lbs, Roberson had to be hospitalized. It was due to the complications that came up due to his weight cuts.

One month after the forgetful experience for Roberson, he would’ve been hoping to make the weight this time around. However, this time he was off by an even bigger margin. ‘Baby K’ weighed in at 190.5 lbs. The fight will still go on at catchweight. A portion of Roberson’s purse, however, will be going to the Italian Vettori.
The fight will bring with itself a lot of bad blood. After Roberson was hospitalized last month, he had a rather ugly spat with Vettori in the hotel lobby. Cuss words were thrown and UFC security had to intervene. Vettori wasn’t done just there. He criticized his scheduled opponent in a video that he released on social media.

Given the small history between the two, Vettori is the one who seems willing to batter Roberson inside the Octagon. His biggest achievement, in his UFC career, has been going down against the current champ Israel Adesanya via a split decision. Both Roberson and Vettori are on the cusp of being ranked at 185-pounds.
Vettori brings with himself a constant pressure that fighters have a tough time matching up to. He even gave Israel Adesanya a run for his money. While his UFC career is full of judges’ decisions, the Italian has a history of catching his opponents in submissions. The key to victory for him will be to use his relentless pressure. However, if the fight goes to the ground, he has plenty of weapons to bring along.

Roberson, on the other hand, is an expert grappler who almost put Glover Teixeira away. Even he is fond of submissions. Roberson will look to take the fight to the ground. However, he may have to work harder to go against the 79 percent takedown-defense rate of Vettori. ‘Baby K’ will look to weather the early storm and dictate the pace in the later rounds.
Marvin Vettori should win this fight with a unanimous decision. However, a submission in the second or third round wouldn’t come off as much of a surprise.
