UFC President Dana White has set May 9th as the target for fights to return. MMA correspondent Brett Okamoto appeared on ESPN’s Sportscenter and confirmed that White is someone who is dead serious about pulling off the event. “He was ready to go this week.”

Furthermore, he allayed queries regarding White proposing to hold events just in an attempt to be in the news and show fans that he was trying despite knowing nothing can go ahead. On the segment, Okamoto said the UFC had a tentative fight card. He reached out to the fighters and their camps and found out that the majority of them were on board with the event.

Tony Ferguson has verbally agreed to fight at UFC 249 on May 9

“At least 75-80% of fighters have verbally agreed. We’re in we’re training. We’re ready to go. Tony Ferguson, he is the top guy. He is the number one and the headliner of this whole thing. He wants to fight Justin Gaethje on May 9.”

‘El Cucuy’ was reportedly upset when UFC 249 was postponed indefinitely and revealed plans to continue training and make weight on the designated weight day. He will not have to wait long now if White can go ahead and the authorities are satisfied with his safety protocols.

White said it would take a month to set up the infrastructure on Fight Island. However, Florida has offered sports a ray of hope as they have been deemed essential businesses that can go ahead in closed arenas sans fans.

As per Okamoto’s words, the location is top secret. “We do not know where yet and we will not know it for a little bit. Part of that is due to the process of them trying to figure it out. Part of it is because they don’t want anybody to know. You saw with UFC 249. He didn’t mention it was going to be in California until the fight was canceled.”

Dana White will be certain to guard his location well this time. By doing so, he will ensure that the event is not derailed yet again. This is because he wants to be the first sport back and is determined to set an example for others to follow.

Will we see UFC 249 on May 9th? If Yes, who you think will be on the card?
